Legal fees

Our Case Handling Process

Outlined below is the general process from your initial inquiry or consultation to the completion of your engagement. Please note that the process may vary depending on the matter involved.

    To begin, please do not hesitate to contact us via our inquiry form or by telephone.

    Consultation
    We would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you either in person or via an online consultation.
    Should you have any relevant documents or evidentiary materials, please bring them to the meeting or have them prepared in advance.
  • step

    Execution of an engagement agreement and payment of the retainer fee
    Following our consultation, if we decide to take on your matter, we will provide you with an engagement agreement and request that you sign it.
    Upon receipt of the retainer fee, we will commence work on your case.

    Legal Services
    We will use our best efforts to resolve your case favorably.
    We will submit a notice of appointment as defense counsel and conduct the defense as appropriate at each stage of the criminal process.

    Completion of case
    We will notify you once the matter has been resolved.
    If the objective of your request is achieved, we will invoice you for the contingency fee as stipulated in the engagement agreement.

Estimate of Legal Fees

  • Legal fees are typically paid at the following three times.
    • Retainer
      This is the fee to be paid at the start of the legal work.
    • Contingency fee
      This is the fee to be paid at the conclusion of the case depending on the results achieved.
    • Per diem
      This is the daily allowance paid to the attorneys for participating in court events like trial dates, pretrial arrangement procedures, and meetings.
  • Retainer and contingency fee

    The amount shall be determined based on the goals and results obtained through the defense activities. The standard amount is indicated in the table below (consumption tax excluded).

  • Per diem

    When appearing in court as the defense attorney, the lawyer will receive a daily allowance (consumption tax excluded) based on the following classification.
    Pretrial arrangement procedures or meetings / 50,000 to 150,000 yen per day
    Trial dates / 100,000 to 200,000 yen per day

  • Preparation of a legal contract

    The above fees are just for reference.
    At our firm, we listen to what the client has to say and, upon consultation, prepare a legal contract that stipulates the exact legal fees and the method of payment.

    No additional fees will be charged for interviews or requests for bail (because the interviews and requests for bail are considered part of the normal workload of criminal attorneys.)

  • Advisory Fee

    From 50,000 yen per month・Per diem


  • Legal Consultation Fee
    20,000 yen for up to one hour, 10,000 yen for each additional 30 minutes (excluding sales tax).
    Online or telephone consultations are also available.

  • Do you also handle cases other than international criminal cases?

    JIN International Criminal Defense Law Office specializes in handling all types of criminal cases in Japan. In addition to Japanese nationals, we also actively defend foreign nationals who have been arrested in Japan, so please feel free to contact us.
  • Is it possible to consult in English? Is there an additional charge when English is spoken?

    Our attorneys speak English, and they can speak directly with clients without the need for an interpreter. For languages other than English, the presence of an interpreter is required, and interpreter fees will be charged.
  • live in a foreign country; can I consult with you just the same?

    Of course, we also accept requests from families living overseas. We frequently receive requests from the families of those involved in criminal cases in Japan.
  • I am already consulting an attorney, but I am worried about procedural errors. Can I consult with you?

    We actively encourage second opinions. If you are unsure or dissatisfied with the current policy of your attorney, or if you are considering changing attorneys, please feel free to contact us. Hearing the opinions of multiple attorneys can provide new perspectives.
  • Do you accept consultations from corporations?

    We do accept corporate consultations. In many criminal cases, corporations appear as suspects or defendants, including for violations of the Entertainment Business Law and corporate tax laws. If you have been contacted by the police, contact us as soon as possible so as to have more options for defense action.
